Midwest Dysphagia Consultants (MDC)  is a mobile medical practice modeled after its sister practice in Texas, Professional Imaging. We are expanding to the OHIO, KENTUCKY, and INDIANA area to offer access to an easily tolerated, noninvasive procedure for dysphagia diagnosis and management onsite. Midwest Dysphagia Consultant is an innovative consultative practice that under the direction of our physicians provide a comprehensive physician directed dysphagia consultation and management service. This service can include diagnostic x-ray services when indicated to evaluate the pathophysiology of the swallowing function as well as treatment and diet recommendations while also considering quality of life issues including the patients’ diagnosis, prognosis and wishes.  MDC offers dysphagia consultations in a way that other providers are unable to provide the service, at the location of the patient. Our physician directed practice is a group medical practice that goes onsite in our state of the art itinerant clinics to eliminate costly, lengthy, and stressful transportation of a patient to a hospital.  All our consultations are performed in our state of the art mobile office and are directed and supervised by a licensed and trained physician and SLP (speech language pathologist) on board each clinic.  MDC is part of a network that performs over 1400 consultations per month.

MDC’s sister practice Professional Imaging has been in practice for 12 years with over 600 contracts in Texas with nursing homes (SNF), hospitals, and home health agencies to provide this service. Professional Imaging has performed over 150,000 evaluations without a malpractice case or Inquiry. We are the largest practice performing this service in the country and we have been successful for the following reasons:

  1. We are trying to find a diet for the patient to take by mouth, nothing by mouth or NPO is a last resort.
  2. We identify the pathology for a directed treatment plan.
  3. We see the patient within 24 to 48 hours over 95% of the time.
  4. Immediately after seeing the patient we leave a full report and recommendations with a DVD with audio for doctor or speech therapist review and family education.

MDC is excited to offer this specialized service to a population of people who have clinical difficulty transporting and whose transport may affect their underlying physical and behavior conditions; therefore, affecting participation and validity of outcomes from the dysphagia consultation including the modified barium swallow study if they are transported out. MDC will be bringing this innovative delivery model of this very necessary life sustaining evaluation method to the great Midwestern united states.
